Low-carbon agriculture in Vietnam has great potential to generate carbon credits, yet it still lacks comprehensive mechanisms and resources for effective implementation. In this article, CCTPA analyzes solutions related to MRV, green finance, and the role of enterprises to promote a thriving agricultural carbon market.
Low-carbon agriculture: Dual benefits for the environment and farmers
To achieve the net-zero emission target by 2050, the agriculture sector – which accounts for nearly one-third of Vietnam’s total greenhouse gas emissions – needs a strong shift toward low-emission production models.
Low-carbon agriculture is an inevitable trend that helps the sector adapt to climate change while promoting sustainable development. By reducing emissions from farming activities and effective land management, low-carbon agriculture protects ecosystems, improves productivity, and increases farmers’ income, while also generating additional revenue through carbon credits. These measures open up new green finance opportunities and support the development of agriculture in Vietnam.

Strengthening mechanisms to promote the agricultural carbon market
For the agricultural carbon market to thrive, close coordination among ministries, local authorities, and enterprises is essential for emissions monitoring and management. The newly issued Decree 119/2025/ND-CP provides a necessary legal framework, clearly defining responsibilities and encouraging voluntary carbon reduction and sequestration models in agriculture.
In parallel, ministries, local authorities, and specialized agencies should support farmers and cooperatives in low-carbon production techniques and access to green finance, while encouraging enterprises to invest and create transparent carbon value chains, driving the domestic carbon market forward.
CCTPA supporting low-carbon agriculture toward Net Zero
As a pioneer in building and developing the carbon market in Vietnam and ASEAN, CCTPA provides a comprehensive ecosystem of solutions to support low-carbon agriculture, including Catalyst – an automated GHG inventory and ESG reporting platform, and CarbonFly – technology for measuring carbon stocks in agriculture and forestry using UAVs and LiDAR.
With growing awareness of carbon credits, agriculture is not only an economic backbone but also a driver of sustainable development. By providing comprehensive support, CCTPA helps government authorities, enterprises, and farmers implement low-carbon agriculture projects, laying the foundation for a green, competitive, and internationally integrated agricultural sector in Vietnam, while moving closer to the Net Zero target.
